Empowering Community through Christ!
Worship
Worship Service - Sundays 11:00 AM. Communion celebrated each
week. Sunday School 10:30 AM.
|
At Living Waters we honor the traditions of the Cherokee.
We incorporate Cherokee symbols and traditions in worship. Water
is used to remember the Ancestors in the call to worship, an eagle
feather graces our alter, and a hand drum and a traditional chant
is used in the Gospel proclamation. We also sing some of our hymns
in Cherokee.
After the service, we gather for a meal and enjoy time together.
All are welcome!

Youth Ministry
|
Living Waters provides opportunities for the youth of the
community to take field trips and have new experiences such as
bowling and horseback riding. We travel to nearby communities
to see museums, colleges, movies theaters, and other places of
interest.

Young Girls Leadership Development Project
"Walking Strong"
|
This program was implemented in 2002 through funding from
the North Carolina Synod and the WELCA of ELCA. North Carolina
WELCA groups also support this project through donations of overnight
bags, cosmetics, table linens, and cash donations. Through this
program, young women of our community learn important social and
leadership skills.

Vacation Bible School
|
Each summer we offer a six week vacation bible
school from the end of June to the first week of August. Lutheran
churches from many areas send teams of folks who stay at the Living
Waters for the week. They assist in providing teachers for classes,
and serve lunch and snacks for the many children in our community
who participate. Please let us know if you would be interested in
supporting this effort. |

Community Presence
|
Because we are both Ambassadors for Christ and
members of the Cherokee community, it is important that our presence
is felt in the community. We honor Cherokee traditions and support
children and adults who wish to participate in Native American traditional
dances. |

|
Sacred Drum Group
|
Provides opportunities for young boys and men to
come together to drum and sing traditional Cherokee and other Inter-Tribal
songs. |
Food Pantry
|
A food pantry is open 9 months out of the year
to provide emergency food boxes, toilet paper, and other paper products
as well. Also provided are personal hygiene products that people
can not buy with food stamps. Over 1,000 people have been served
since 2000. Personal hygiene, paper products and donations are gratefully
accepted to supplement the food pantry. |
Computers and Computer Classes
|
Living Waters provides the community with a computer
lab, computer training classes, and has placed donated computers
in over 20 homes. The classes are offered to parents, grandparents,
and community people who can learn computer skills for more academic
and employment opportunities. This has been a great success and
the students in the first class are now all employed. |
Family Fun Night
|
During the winter months, a family fun night occurs
monthly on a Friday. This is a time when there is very little activity
for families in the community. |
